Happy Friday!

Today we all got together in the gym to watch each others' dances! It was awesome to see our friends, siblings, and Grade 3 Buddies! A BIG thank you to our Parent Council for supporting our SoundKreations residency. We all enjoyed our time learning with Keston.

We wrote in our home journals today as well. Don't forget to read it with me and write me a note back. We have been working on trying to write 3 sentences, adding in some details about our week at school. For example, This week in music we played the Xylophones. We played high and low notes. We also sang a song!
Students are encouraged to use their "Grade 1 best guess spelling" and use the word wall to spell common words.

Today our Circle of Courage Spotlight students did an amazing job! Ask me what Nathan (Ms. Barley's class) & James (Mrs. Daniels' class) shared. Circle of Courage Spotlight for Nov. 24th: Ashton & River. See below for Details.

Monday, November 7th

Hello Parents! Today we had a busy day! We wrote about our weekends and had both gym and music. In music, we played high and low notes on the Xylophones. Mrs. Mann told us we demonstrated "Peace" in class today :)

This afternoon we did a Magic Number assignment in Math. Ask me how many ways I can show you my magic number. We also got to go on Raz-Kids! Students are allowed to bring in their own pair of headphones that they can keep in their cubbies for when they are "Listening to Reading". This will allow them to focus on the story they are listening to and not have to worry about sharing the school ones. If you choose to send in headphones please have them labelled with your child's first name and last initial.

We are looking for Volunteers for the Wee Read Program:
Wee Read is about reading aloud and sharing the joy of reading with kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Reading volunteers would need to commit to 30 minutes per week for 8 weeks. In this 30 minutes, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with two students either in Kindergarten or Grade 1.
If you are interested in volunteering for this program, a valid police clearance through the CBE is required. Interested volunteers are asked to please attend a Wee Reads training session on November 8th from 10:30am-11:30am or November 10th from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Both training sessions will be offered at Royal Oak School. If you are interested in attending, please contact Sandi Harrower at slharrower@cbe.ab.ca and RSVP by Monday evening, November 7th.

Thursday, November 3rd

Unfortunately, today Ms. Percival's field trip to the Royal Oak fire station got cancelled. The City of Calgary had made an error on their booking system which allowed us to book a tour of the fire station on Royal Birch Hill. The City of Calgary was contacted today to confirm our trip details for this afternoon and it was expressed that the Royal Birch Hill fire station has permanently moved locations to Royal Vista Way. This meant that we were unable to do our community walk and unfortunately had to cancel our trip. The City of Calgary is now aware of this glitch and are working to fix their booking system.
This also means that Ms. MacDonald's trip to the fire station on Monday, November 7th has to be cancelled as well.
If families would like to visit the new Royal Vista Way fire station they can do so as tours run most days at 10am, 2pm and 7pm. Parents can contact the City of Calgary's 311 system to book a tour. We apologize for this inconvenience. Ask the kids what they did today during inquiry! It looked like they still had a lot of fun!
Today we also talked about what 'Peace' means and we read "The Peace Book" by Todd Parr. Here is some of our work.

We also had a Fire Drill practice this morning! Ask me how I did. We all got out of the school safely in under 2 min.

Reminders: Circle of Courage Spotlight tomorrow - Kathleen & Kylea
Also, please return your blue Digital Citizenship form signed!
